Clear Ice FAQ

How often should my ice machine be cleaned?
It depends on how much it is being used. We can discuss this with you to suggest whether you need a quarterly or semi-annually preventative maintenance schedule. Water filtration plays a large part in lowering the number of visits per year.
Why do my ice cubes taste/smell bad?
The water filter on the water supply line may need to be replaced. Consider having us install a water filter to improve the taste and odor of the ice cubes.
Can I add a filtration system to my machine at any time or just at the time it is purchased?
Yes, you can add filtration any time and it is recommended to extend the life of your machine.
How often do I need to replace the water filter?
As a rule of thumb, you should replace the water filter every six months.
Why are my ice machine’s ice cubes suddenly coming out so small?
The water filter may be dirty and need replacement or the water supply valve may have an obstruction.
Can I change the shape of my ice cubes?
No, the shape is determined by the manufacturer of the ice machine. Some models offer several size options.
My ice machine stopped making ice. What’s wrong?
Verify that the unit is plugged in and breaker at electrical panel is in the on position. If breaker is tripped, call us immediately. Also, make sure the water supply is turned on. Unit could be dirty and need maintenance if regular service has not been performed. Call us if this doesn’t solve the problem.
What do I do if my machine is only making slush is running through rather than making ice?
Call us for service or technical support.

How much ice do I need if I’m planning an event?

As a rule, we suggest 2 lbs per person if you are serving ice in cups to pour drinks into. If
you are icing down food and/or storing products in portable coolers, you should take that into consideration. We can help you determine what you need to have on hand.

How much does each unit produce in a 24-hour period?

Depends on the size of the machine. We can help you determine what size is needed based on your demand.  We most commonly sell units that can produce 50 – 2000 lbs.

Does each ice machine hold the amount of ice it produces?

No, it depends on the bin used. Some machines have smaller bins than the unit can produce while larger units may have a bin to hold more than can be produced. We can help you to determine what you need to have on hand.

How many years should my ice machine last?

With regular maintenance, an ice machine should be expected to last six to 10 years.
